SA horse judging

This event will take place during a school day.  Registrants are required to fill out an academic elgibility form and have it signed by their school and then faxed the Ag office.  I do anticipate this taking most of the day, based on this past weekend’s event.

I am trying to put the horse judging manual from TAMU on the website for those interested to download.

Summer Horse Judging Camps

Texas A&M announces dates for this Summer’s Fun Horse Judging Camps!

Upcoming Events

January 24th - Horse Judging Competition:  January 24th

February 12th - District 10 Horse Judging Competition - The District 10 Horse Judging qualification competition for the State 4-H Horse Show will be at the San Antonio Livestock Show .   Pre-registration was required.   Travis County registered:  Kaitlin Petras, Elena Enno, Kylie Husta, Kaitlyn Shaheen, Kala Swilling, and Meredith Vasquez.  (registrations were due last November and those were our Teams at that time)

Teams:   Teams consist of three 4-H Members in an age group.  Being in a team means that you compete individually, but your score is also added to two other teammates to get a Team score.   In the event more than 3 members are present in an age group, the top three individual scores make up the team.  If the team goes with less than three members, the members still compete individually.   There is no additional team activity apart from competing as an individual.   There is not team discussion allowed or separate events that teams compete in different from individual participation.

Senior Team (age 14 and older – age as of 8/31/08)

Kim, your Kaitlin is part of the senior judging team age 14 and up (with Kala and Martha from Manor).   Please call Martha (Kala’s Mom) 512-670-6630 to coordinate for the competition on the 24th.    Each senior also competes individually.

Junior Team(13 and under as of 8/31/08)

My Kaitlyn will not be on the Judging Team this year.   (I am not sure of Kylie’s status so I included her on the above list).

Team Parent Leader – Martha is the overall Judging Team leader, but we also need a lead parent from Horses Rock 4-H to coordinate with Martha.   Our team parent will organize any practices and also keep our Judging Team Bulletin Board updated along with Martha.  This Bulletin Board is http://www.horsesrockjudge.blogspot.com and can be accessed directly or through our Web Site.   To “write” to the Bulletin Board, one only has to send an email to:   horsesrock4h.judge@blogger.com

Call for Horses Rock Adult Leader

I will not be leading the Horses Rock Judging Teams efforts, but I am here as a helper and resource and helper.  I would appreciate being copied on emails and being kept in the loop.   Any Horses Rock parent who would like to lead the Horses Rock Team Members, please let me and Martha know.  (Martha is part of the Manor 4-H (in Travis County) and we compete in Horse Judging as Travis County)   I have some Judging team Leader manuals I can provide to you and other helpful resource materials as well.

Resources:   We have excellent resources linked to our web site (click on Horse Judging).   Texas A&M also puts on an excellent Workshop at College Station each summer.   It is a week long camp and is a lot of fun!

Thanks,

Holly Carson
